Pablo Picasso Early Life

Pablo Picasso was the son of a drawing professor, José Ruiz Blasco and Maria Picasso López. Picasso built his interest in drawing himself in his early childhood days of around 10 years old age. At that time, he became his father’s pupil in A Coruña, where the family moved in 1891. From that point, he always experiments with everything that he has learned and this develops him the ability to surpass his father’s abilities. In A Coruña his father shifted his own ambitions to his son, helping him at every stage of life.

Later, the family moved to Barcelona in the autumn of 1895. Then, Pablo joined the local art academy (La Llotja), from where his father had completed his last post as a professor of drawing. The family started hoping that their son would achieve success as an academic painter. Everything was going good, but suddenly Picasso fell ill in the spring of 1898 and was then sent to the Catalan village of Horta de Ebro. There he lived for many years in the company of his Barcelona friend Manuel Pallarès.

In 1895, seven-year-old sister of Pablo died of diphtheria and this bring him in trauma. After her death, Pablo’s family moved to Barcelona, where Ruiz joined a School of Fine Arts. Picasso thrived in the city as his true home. His father persuaded the officials at the academy to allow his son to appear in the entrance exam for the advanced class. This whole process usually takes more than a month for students, but Picasso completed it in a week. By the time he was 13, the jury admitted him. As a student, Picasso lacked discipline but made friends that might help him in the later stages of life.

Later Picasso’s father and uncle decided to send him to the country’s foremost art school. He was then admitted to Madrid’s Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando at age 16. This was the first time when Picasso set off on his own. After a few days of enrollment, he stopped attending classes and even starts avoiding formal instructions. The Prado housed paintings by several popular painters, including Francisco Goya, Diego Velázquez, and Francisco Zurbarán.
