ISRO Chief’s full name is Sreedhara Panicker Somanath, well known as S. Somanath. Mr Shreedhara Somanath is the current chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
He was appointed the tenth ISRO chairman by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on 12 January 2022 succeeding Dr. K. Shivan. Under his chairmanship, ISRO carried out the Chandrayaan-3 mission. As the new ISRO Chairman, Somanath will focus on technology, policy, implementation and areas where stakeholders need to be taken care of. He will also work to expand the ecosystem of space into industries.

Mr S Somanath’s full name is Shridhara Panicker Somanath. Somanath, birthday was in July 1963 in Alappuzha (Kerala). Somanath is an aerospace engineer with over 35 years of experience in the space sector.
S Somanath held positions at ISRO, including Project Manager- Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), Deputy Director for Structures Entity/Propulsion and space Ordnance Entity, and Project Director, Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV Mk-III).
He was associated with the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) project during its initial phase and was the Deputy Director of Propulsion and Space Ordinance Entity till November 2014. In June 2015, he served as the Director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) which is responsible for the design and realization of liquid propulsion systems for launch vehicle and spacecraft programs.

Mission Chandrayan- 3
Under Somanath’s Leadership, ISRO Successfully launched the Chandrayan-3 mission at the moon’s south pole in 2023. India is the first country to reach the south pole of the moon orbit. Spacecraft successfully launched on LVM3-M4 from Satish Dhawan Space Center in Andhra Pradesh on July 14.
The approved cost of Chandrayaan-3 is Rs. 250 crores (Excluding Launch Vehicle Cost). Chandrayan successfully landed on 23 Aug 2023 at 18:04.
